Relaxing in the park

If all you knew about love was rumor and reputation,
If all you held on to were wistful hopes or magical memories…
If everything you trusted to carry you relied on fair weather
Or the favor of fickle people,
Then whatever you know of love would be vain.

But there is a Love that is real, that stands and delivers
More than wishful thinking or the Good Ole Days…
A Love that lasts through the strain of the Dog days
And the pain of disappointing people…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth.

If all you knew of love was agreement and approval,
And the whole world danced while you sang your song…
If every morning greeted you with sunshine and rainbows
And the endless praise of life-long admirers,
Then what you call Love is at best empty.

But there is a Love that holds on to you when life pushes back,
And embraces you warmly when people grow cold.
A Love that endures the pelting of blinding storms
And the ignorance of sightless critics…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth.

The only Love that can make you happy
Is one that stays in days of strain.
The only Love where dreams come true
Is one that pushes through the pain.
Only the Love that has given all
Can speak with truth of what you’re worth.
And only a Love that has been through the fire
Can go with you to the Ends of the Earth.

If all you knew of love was bright and predictable,
And the people in your world were controllable and pliable…
If you never had tears for someone else to dry
Or fears that required the embrace of a faithful other,
Then what you know of love is fleeting.

But there is a Love that sees what’s hidden in the shadows,
And spangles the night sky with traceable stars.
A Love that enters into our sorrows
And holds us when we have no one to hold onto…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth.

If all you knew of love was certain and decisive,
And every claim for your heart was faithful and true…
If you never have had to face mixed signals
Or the betrayal of a trust gone bad,
Then whatever you know of Love is dangerous.

But there is Love that waits for you in your confusion,
And continues to reach for you in your moments of fear.
A Love that carries boldness and confidence
Enough to lend to you when you have none…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth.

The only Love that can make you happy
Is one that stays in days of strain.
The only Love where dreams come true
Is one that pushes through the pain.
Only the Love that has given all
Can speak with truth of what you’re worth.
And only a Love that has been through the fire
Can go with you to the Ends of the Earth.

If all you knew of love was full bellies and comfortable houses,
If your only expectations were pleasure and adventure…
If you never had a price to pay or sacrifice to make
Or never had one paid or made for you,
Then whatever you know of Love is futile.

But there is a Love that that withstands the bruising and pain
And keeps coming back, even when you’re the one dishing it out.
A Love that knows no pride or self-serving limits
And withholds no price to serve the Beloved…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth

If all you knew of love was peaceful sailing on calm oceans,
If your only experiences were fulfilled promises and no regrets…
If you never had to worry about howling winds of change
Or uncertainties that leave you clinging for survival,
Then whatever you know of Love is sterile.

But there is a Love that walks on stormy seas to find you,
And reaches out to save you from drowning in your own regrets.
A Love that embraces you as you face the changes
And courageously enters the wildness with you…
A Love that goes to the Ends of the Earth.
