God’s Got This

Lately it feels as though you’re doing a tightrope dance with the devil himself. He seduces you like an angel of light in one ear and shames you for all your failures in the other.  Your life feels, even smells like a sulfurous war zone and it sure seems as though the casualties are piling up.  But in the quake and the fury, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this.  All you have to do is trust Him.  And say “thank you.”

 

Like a broken cash register, your money drawer only seems to open when it time to shell it out to somebody else.  From disaster salesmen to debt collectors, everybody’s standing with an outstretched hand.  There’s always another reason to fret over this thing called The Economy, and even a box of Girl Scout cookies feels like a sacrificial charitable donation. But in the fear and loathing-, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

What once was a promising career now feels more like a dead-end job. You’re now doing the work it once took two people to do, for the same or less money. All the while you know that yours could be the next pink slip, so you’ve long since quit hoping for a raise – you’d just like to see some relief from the boredom or the bully you call a boss.  But in the grind and the groaning, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

You’re feeling more and more like a stranger in your own home town – a visitor in your own congregation.  Deluged by more and faster changes, you find yourself yearning for a different, more familiar time.  My God, you’re starting to sound like your parents or grandparents, and you’re just not that old – but you’re starting to feel it and sense it. But in the frustration and isolation, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

You can hardly remember the last time you spent unrushed, quality time with your closest friends.  You’ve resorted to Facebook to see what’s up with their kids, and you can only hear their heart in snippets of 140 characters or less.  You find yourself gasping for the sweet air of someone who knows you fully, but loves you deeply anyway.  But in the longing and loneliness, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

“Family” is a word held loosely to describe the blur of humans going in and out of your house. At once a joy and a drain, there’s always another event to attend or task to accomplish.  You turn off the light every night knowing you could have done more and probably wishing you had just a little help. But in the overwhelm and underappreciation, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

That face staring back at you from inside your mirror – your constant companion – is getting older, dumber, and flabbier.  Even the areas where you once felt alive and confident are now being bested by time and younger talent. You stare at the looking glass wishing you could trade yourself in on a newer, smarter, prettier model. But in the shame and slowdown, there’s one and only one thing you need to know…

God’s got this. All you have to do us trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

Your body seems to have a mind of its own these days, and convenience is not its concern. Rest and exercise seem like quaint ideas, but you’re too busy to rest and too exhausted to exercise.  You’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, and whatever you ate yesterday, somebody today is telling you that’s all wrong. But in the hunger and fatigue, there’s one and only one thing you need to know.

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

All that Statue talk of “huddled masses yearning to be free” is starting to sound pretty interesting.  You’re constantly beating back some limitation or letdown, desperate for freedom and control over your life. Yet whenever you do have choices, you find yourself making stupid ones and shooting yourself in the proverbial foot. But in the failure and futility, there’s one and only one thing you need to know.

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

You once had dreams and plans, but the disappointments have taken their toll. Lately your thoughts have been more directed toward which foot to put in front of the last one to keep going and going and going.  You know you have plenty more to learn, but feel less and less able to do so. But in the fog and futility, there’s one and only one thing you need to know.

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

That heart that once felt passion and purpose now feels hard-pressed to feel anything. When you do find yourself expressing some kind of emotion, you’re usually embarrassed at the result – like anger, apathy, or anxiety. You want to reconnect with that rush and hush of First Love again, but you’ve lost the directions to get there.  But in the numbness and coldness, there’s one and only one thing you need to know.

God’s got this. All you have to do is trust Him. And say “thank you.”

 

You know the facts and claim the faith of the Faithful and True, but in reality He feels a million miles away. You know the disconnect between what you “believe” and what you live, but all your efforts to bridge the gap only seem to expose another new entry to the sin list.  You’re joyless as you trudge ahead, judged and judgmental as you examine your heart and know there must be more. But in the defeat and distance, there’s one and only one thing you need to know.

God’s got this.

He’s got you.

All you have to do is trust Him.

And say “thank you.”
