When the clock tolls the launch of a new dawn
And people start stumbling toward their routines,
There in the early light of day many are searching for more –
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
When the morning meditators do their thing
And the quiet prayers of hidden millions ascend to heaven,
There in the expressions of thanks and need and hope
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
When the bartering and buying and selling is done
And people have had their fill of material vanity,
There in the search for simplicity and genuine happiness
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
When the givers and takers and big troublemakers,
The teasers and pleasers admit there must be a better way,
There in the search for love in its perfection
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
He did say you were the light of the world.
A reflection of His covenant love and truth
A beacon of hope in the darkest of nights.
A reflection of God and His greater glory…
So be who you are! Pierce the darkness with life
In this dark world that’s still looking for the light.
When the compass is spinning and people get turned,
When even the surest of travelers has lost his way,
There in the search for a pathway to purpose
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
When the arrows are flying and the battles are raging,
And even the bravest warriors are exposed and vulnerable,
There in the search for a shield and defender
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
He did say you were the light of the world.
A reflection of His covenant love and truth
A beacon of hope in the darkest of nights.
A reflection of God and His greater glory…
So be who you are! Pierce the darkness with life
In this dark world that’s still looking for the light.
When the room is full of strangers or polite acquaintances,
And people are searching for true connection and community,
There in the search for an intimate kinship
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
When the world has turned cold, leafless and gray
And their passion has faded, traded for dull routines,
There in the search for a fire for the soul
They’re looking for the light…
They’re looking for you.
He did say you were the light of the world.
A reflection of His covenant love and truth
A beacon of hope in the darkest of nights.
A reflection of God and His greater glory…
So be who you are! Pierce the darkness with life
In this dark world that’s still looking for the light.
“You are the world’s light—it is impossible to hide a town built on the top of a hill. Men do not light a lamp and put it under a bucket. They put it on a lamp-stand and it gives light for everybody in the house. Let your light shine like that in the sight of men. Let them see the good things you do and praise your Father in Heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16, JBP)
