I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing praises to You before the gods (Psalm 138:1)
Gratitude is not for the half-hearted.
It’s all-in…mind, will, and emotions.
And it’s a choice, regardless of our current state.
Even in pain, we give thanks…
Focused attention.
Unwavering will.
Full engagement.
David wrote this in a culture that worshipped gods made with men’s hands.
You live in a cousin of that culture today.
It’s one thing to give thanks in the friendly confines.
It’s quite another to sing His praise in a hostile culture.
That’s what wholehearted gratitude does.
It celebrates the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, and in the land of the dead.
