Where can I go to get away from your Spirit?
Where can I run to get away from you?
If I go up to heaven, you are there.
If I make my bed in hell, you are there.
If I climb upward on the rays of the morning sun
or land on the most distant shore of the sea where the sun sets,
even there your hand would guide me
and your right hand would hold on to me (Ps 139:7-10, GW)
It’s the fundamental reality – the primal fact on which all else we know is built. The immortal, invisible, only-wise God, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens, knows no limits of time or space. For those who have experienced the kindness of His grace, the implications of that are profound. Simply put, wherever you are, there He already was, is, and shall be.
Wherever you sleep tonight, He remains awake. Watchful. Aware of where you rest and what you dream.
Wherever you inhabit the darkness, He sees you, and knows all there is to know about you.
Wherever you soar on wings of joy or sob with a broken heart, He feels the full range of emotion you carry, having been touched by every care, every trouble, every delight.
Wherever you know with certainty or wonder in doubt, He meets you there with understanding, patience, and consistent confidence.
Wherever you may wander far from Him, or however distant you may feel from Him, He reaches across the real or imagined spaces to show you again and again that His nearness is your good.
Wherever you lose your strength of heart, He renews your mind, sustains your resolve, and stills you with a peace that passes all understanding.
Wherever you imagine new possibilities or search along the frontiers of what-could-be, He opens doors of opportunity and windows of imagination for you.
Wherever you search for love – in the fleeting moments or the across the span of a lifetime – He sets you as an unbreakable seal upon His heart and loves you with an everlasting, ever-present love that refuses to let go.
Wherever you reach for assurance of truth, He reveals to you again that He is faithful and true.
Wherever you stand accused for evidence of your own faithfulness, He reminds you that He knows your works and that even a cup of cold water given in His name does not lose its reward.
Wherever your course is darkened and fear claims to be your only companion, He gives you boldness to fear no evil as He prepares a feast in the presence of your enemies.
Wherever your hope seems overshadowed by the impossible and the mortal, He chases you down with goodness and mercy and throws open the doors to His house of forever.
Wherever you are, wherever you go, He was, He is, and always will be.
So, so powerful and uplifting, Andy! Yes, He is wherever we are and we can take such comfort and solace in that. I’m not only going to share this to Facebook, but also to the prayer page of a young woman who suffered severe injuries in a motorcycle accident and will be in the hospital for an indefinite time. I think your reflection will bring her peace and reassurance.
Blessings to you!
