Imagine being one of the 5000 people who ate bread and fish at the hand of a miracle by Jesus Himself. Bet it tasted good! I’ll bet it was an amazing spectacle to behold.
The laughter between bites.
The wonder.
The amazement.
The satisfaction of your appetite.
Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if, after the miraculous feed, you had never hungered again?
Wouldn’t it have been awesome, too, if Lazarus was still walking around today?
And how about those three tabernacles Peter offered to pitch on the Mount of Transfiguration? Wouldn’t it be cool to jet over to Israel and have a chat with Moses or Elijah? Or to see one of them interviewed on CNN in all their glory?
Unfortunately, the 5,000 got hungry the next day. Lazarus eventually got sick again and died. And Peter and his friends left the mountaintop after Moses and Elijah vanished.
But they all had something greater than full bellies, reusable tombs, and stories to tell and re-tell.
They had the Miracle Maker. The Resurrection and Life. The Radiance of God’s glory.
And so do we.
And the miracles they experienced on their respective single days? Just the opening act of an eternally unfolding drama.
Now to Him –
HIM! –
who is able –
and still willing today –
to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, –
He still has the capacity to drop your jaw, to blow your mind –
according to the power that works in us –
not just at suppertime or the cemetery, but in the most fertile bed of miracles anywhere –
to Him be glory –
NOT to the miracles, the wonders, the signs –
to Him be glory in the church –
(imagine that!) –
by Christ Jesus –
the only way, truth, and life –
to all generations, –
including this one –
forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
