Did you that Visine WILL clean out your nose if you squirt it in?  But neither Johnson & Johnson nor I recommend that you use it for that purpose.  (Don’t ask me how I know.)

There are two ways to learn by experience – be amazing without realizing it, or be imperfect and realize it.  Either way, it helps to have someone else to help you do the realizing.  The word for that is, “teacher” or “mentor.”

If you’re amazing and know it, fine.  But that’s not learning.  If you’re imperfect and remain clueless about it, that’s not learning either, because you’re still, well, clueless.

The role of the teacher or mentor is to be a “realization specialist.”  Sometimes that means being a passionate encourager.  Sometimes it means being an honest critic.  Always, it means pointing toward excellence and inviting someone to join you on that journey.

Be amazing in your grace.  If Jesus was, can’t you be?

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge (1 Corinthians 1:4-5).

In his greeting to a carnal church, Paul is stating a profound truth, regardless of how badly they had messed it up.  The fact is, they were recipients of the matchless grace of God in Christ Jesus.

In everything they really were enriched in Him.  And so am I.  I am made rich in time, money, love, gifts, knowledge, wisdom, and everything else I need to prosper in this life and the next.  And it is all by grace.  I am wealthy in the grace of God.  No other wealth matters.

Today I celebrate the God who has made me rich through His grace.  And I am enriched in everything.  EVERYTHING is richer because of Christ and His grace.

My next door neighbor has the strangest habit.  I’ve watched her now for two-plus years.  About an hour after the mail is delivered, she goes out to the mailbox, puts in her outgoing mail, and raises the red flag.  Repeatedly I’ve thought, “You know, if you would just get there an hour earlier, your mail would go out today.”  Then one day it dawned on me.  She isn’t an hour late.  She’s 23 hours early.

Actual conversation with the sweetest young newlywed couple.  We were doing some bid-ness, and she was writing me a check:

She: Could you hurry up and cash this so I’ll know how much money I have in the bank?

(pause…)

Me, thinking to myself:  Uh, sure, but um… see… there’s this thing called reconciling

Christians can easily comprehend a world in which evil prevails.

They totally get a Kingdom (of God) where good prevails.

But they will never, ever understand a scenario in which evil – or evil people – prevail in the church.
